FAQ: What cloth should we prefer ?

Cloths provided with kits are generally too thick. The weft of the cloth is disproportionate with regard to the scale of the model.
The more the tissue will be fine, the more it will give a good look to sails.

In ancient times the sails were not white. They were dipped into a solution of tannin to resist to mold. Their colours varied from some brown-red to some chestnut-black.
The range of colours of current cloths avoids exotic stains.
